Research + Discovery
Target Audience
-
Women (primarily 25–40) seeking a mix of luxury and healing.
-
Creatives, entrepreneurs, and professionals craving balance and clarity.
-
Individuals interested in mindfulness, wellness, beauty, and spiritual growth
As part of my research and discovery process, I conducted a visual analysis of three high-end wellness and resort websites:
-
Miraval Austin
-
Commodore Perry Estate
-
Aman Wellness.
These sites provided strong references for visual direction, user experience, and emotional tone.

Across all three, I noticed several unifying characteristics that strongly support the kind of emotional storytelling I want to evoke for the Wellness Retreat project:
-
Calm, Sophisticated Color Palettes
-
Minimalist Typography
-
Generous White Space & Clean Layouts
-
Immersive Photography
-
Luxury & Accessibility

These references helped inform both my aesthetic direction and structural approach for the Wellness Retreat marketing webpage and campaign. By understanding what successful wellness brands have in common, I can build a digital experience that feels serene, intentional, and emotionally compelling.

Ideation + Sketching
During the ideation and sketching phase, I began by brainstorming how to visually communicate the emotional goals of the retreat—serenity, connection, and renewal.
I used a mind map to explore related themes such as nature, healing, mindfulness, and friendship. This helped generate ideas for potential visuals like yoga sessions, sound bowl meditations, floating in water, and walks through nature.

From this, I developed early concept sketches and visual directions. Some key ideas included:
-
Illustration of friends walking on a trail to symbolize connection and personal growth
-
A zen garden to represent calm and balance
-
Yoga and sound bowls as a symbol of healing and inner peace

I also gathered visual references to support these concepts—such as imagery of spa settings, outdoor yoga with scenic backdrops, and tranquil nature scenes. These references helped guide the mood, composition, and color palette (soft blues and muted greens) I envisioned for the final design.
The goal during this phase was to explore how emotional tone could be communicated through illustration, layout, and symbolic imagery—laying a strong creative foundation for the design process.

Wireframing + Structure
The design process began with low-fidelity wireframes focused on layout, content structure, and introducing a calming visual direction. These early drafts helped define user flow and identify key content like retreat activities and location.
As the design evolved into mid- and high-fidelity, I refined spacing, added intentional imagery, and introduced plant elements for a peaceful aesthetic. I also created social media ads to promote the retreat, keeping the design cohesive across digital platforms.
The final product includes a homepage, an About Me page, and a daily schedule—all designed to communicate the retreat’s purpose while providing a smooth user experience.

Feedback + Iteration
Reviewers highlighted the strong use of leading lines, which effectively guide the viewer’s eye into the text while adding structure and a feeling of lightness.
The alternating layout was preferred over the centered one for better visual rhythm. Breaking the frame was praised for creating visual interest.

Suggestions included working on improving the hierarchy for clearer communication and adding testimonials to build trust and credibility.

Outcome + Reflection
What did you focus on improving from mid-fi to high-fi?
Yes, I focused on making the website look more professional by increasing white space and improving the overall flow. I added plant design elements for a calming aesthetic and included an About Us page to share the story behind the retreat. The images were chosen more intentionally, and I added a hero video showcasing the activities included in the retreat.

What was the final result?
The final website includes a homepage that introduces the wellness retreat and an About Me page that highlights the owner's story and mission.

Did it meet user needs/client goals?
Yes, it met the client’s goals by clearly communicating the retreat’s purpose and creating a visually calming, informative site.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time, I would add more detailed information about the event and include a booking page to streamline user action.
What did you learn as a designer?
I learned the importance of thoughtful design decisions, storytelling through visuals, and how small changes like spacing and imagery can significantly improve professionalism and user experience.
